santa rosa's rosso pizzeria + wine bar is stumbling distance from my house. lucky me.
for months i avoided going there for two reasons:
1. i'm italian and always weary of going out to eat italian food. it's hard to quiet the little voice in my head "these meatballs aren't as good as nanny's (my grandma)"
2. it's in hidden strip mall
BUT i'm so glad put aside those silly notions because
their uber thin crust pizza makes me happy. some of my favorites: housemade burrata stuffed with goat curd + mint gremolata, oven roasted octopus with tomato + olives + rosemary and the porketta pizza (add a soft cooked sonoma organic egg to take this dish to "oh my god" levels. rosso does everything right, down to the decor, simple, modern but not cold...red walls, vintage italian posters, open kitchen. my second time there the waiter was describing the special: forever roasted pig and my eyes started watering, it's supposed to be your mouth, i know, but i get emotional about food. added bonus: they have my new favorite wine radio coteau's las colinas syrah.
the porketta arrives with some radio coteau
