life rolls: moxi skate shop in long beach
just as i was riding off into the sunset last sunday after patchwork long beach, i took a quick detour down to 4th street to check out moxi. owned by michelle “estro jen” steilen, co-founder of the long beach roller derby- the tiny shop is jam-packed with kickass retro skates for rental/purchase and steilen’s own line of american-made “revitalized classic” quad skates (including the adorable “ivy” with black & white zebra stripe and translucent ruby red wheels). and, although roller skating fits into a dim regrettable part of my adolescent memory involving color-coordinated scrunchies, socks and white denim- as i shopped under the beneficent sparkle of moxi’s roller-skate shaped disco ball… i could almost imagine myself as a new kind of suburban skating warrior… -varci vartanian (staff writer)

OUR MARKETING MIXER... WHAT AN AWESOME NIGHT
so...
about a month ago... delilah (co-founder of patchwork & my aunt) came up with the idea for a marketing mixer. i said... okay... hesitantly... thinking no one would show up. tonight... i was proved wrong. we had a full house, standing room only, at the road less traveled store in santa ana for the first ever patchwork marketing mixer. avanti cafe was sweet enough to provide delicious spreads, gustavo arellano and sarah garcia gave talks about press releases and how to do pr for your business and i (random nicole) chatted about vendor issues... like maximizing booth spaces, getting the word out about the event and your business and selling your product. we had such an amazing turnout... delilah & i feel very lucky to have such wonderful vendors involved in patchwork. big thanks to all who came!
